Orange Hill, 2023, oil on canvas 27"x37"x1.5"
Original oil on canvas with frame size 27"x37"x1.5".
“Colors swarm through the first,
Where trees are orange waves on fire.”
Bright orange is one of those really good attention grabbing colors. It resists being used in a subtle way, is never reticent, or decorous, or delicate. Orange is a vulgar color, more than a little pushy, but one cannot keep away from it. In this painting, I use the orange in a naturalistic fashion, to describe the intensity of a Fall sunset in Prospect park, Brooklyn NY.
I painted four to five layers in different times to create the rich texture and color’s interaction.
