Whispers of Spring in DC, oil on canvas 42"x42"x2", 2025
Original oil on canvas with frame 40"x40"x2".
Whispers of Spring was inspired by my visit to Washington, D.C., during last month’s cherry blossom peak. Most of the trees were blanketed in delicate white petals—soft and luminous, subtly shifting in tone with the sky and weather. I was captivated by how the blossoms seemed to reflect the light around them, changing from cool silvers to warm lavenders as the day passed.
Using a painting knife, I built up layers of texture to echo the gentle density of the flowers and the grounded presence of the trunks. The composition leads the viewer into a quiet path beneath the blooms, inviting stillness and reflection.
This painting seeks to capture not only the beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom, but also the fleeting, living quality of the moment—a landscape held briefly between stillness and change.
