“ After fresh rain in bare mountain,
Summer permeates afternoon air.”
For years, while exhibiting my arts in the Boston Mills Art Festival in Ohio, I have painted many paintings around that area, especially the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. On one especially clear day, I was struck by the intense light green trees against the orange-yellow grasses and light purple sky. The dramatic color contrast of this painting helps me feel the pleasure of summer.
I like to paint the complexity of colors with a variety of strokes, layer after layer. From start to finish, each painting may take more than a month. I paint mainly with the palette knife to produce heavy textures and occasionally, in my final touches, use a brush.
