In this painting, blue and purple are used in the distance and repeated in the foreground. In the foreground, I paint the moving grasses in sunlight with loose strokes to keep the painting alive and fresh. Painting in the field for me is more about reconnecting with outdoor sensual experiences than about creating an accurate rendering.
When I paint outdoors, I use oil with a palette knife. I do not wait for the oil to dry and keep working on second or third layers until finishing. This technique is called wet-on-wet.
