Winter in north has its own melody. It adds dramatic cloud formations to the library of subject material for me to draw upon. Meanwhile, the landscape is reduced to the essential. With the absence of foliage, structure becomes prominent again. Tree trunks and branches reveal an expressive anatomy.
Huang Yu Lin is an artist and art educator who lives in New York City. Her colorful works can be critical, sometimes hilariously so, but they aren't bleak or cruel. Rather, they are feeling made external, and convey the exhilaration and freedom of mind at the core of painting.
